PREFIXES
The prefix fid(and its variant fis) mean "faith" or "trust". When audio systems evolved from monaural to stereo sound, we referred to the systems themselves as “hi-fi” or high fidelity, that is, faithful to the original sound.
The prefix fug (and its variant fugit) mean “flee”. A fugitive from the law is someone trying to avoid capture by the police.
The prefix lax means “not tense”. No doubt you recognize the word relaxation.
ROOTS
The root scend (and its variant scens) mean “climb”. Christians believe that Jesus ascended into Heaven.
The root clam (and its variant claim) mean “cry out”. Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation freed the slaves.
The root dent (and its variant dont) mean "tooth". If you fracture a tooth, the dentist might have to re-build it and put a cap on it.
SUFFIXES
The suffix cian means “possessing a specific skill or art”. Certainly, a physician possesses skill in treating the ailments of the body.
